Marta Guerrero Valero

Marta Guerrero Valero obtained her PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Murcia (Spain) in September 2011. In that same month, she joined our group with a stipend from the Cancerfonden (Sweden) to develop a project in collaboration with the group of Prof. Neus Visa from Stockholm University.

The aim of the project is to characterize the signaling pathways that are responsible for the cytotoxicity of the chemotherapy agent Fluorouracil (5FU) using colon carcinoma cell lines as a model system. Currently, she is focused on the identification of proteins that are affected by 5FU and that are useful as predictive markers for 5FU chemosensitivity. The goal is to be able determine the extent to which DNA-based and RNA-based mechanisms contribute to the effects of 5FU. These studies could lead to the identification of new potential targets for 5FU-based therapy.
